Background:
In September 2015, nearly two and half years ago, the Heads of States and Governments of the 193 member States of the United Nation met in New York, USA and adopted the 2030 agenda for Sustainable Development of humanity, pledging to ‘leave no one behind’.
While acknowledging the tremendous progress made towards the realisation of the human rights of women, girls and minority groups, environmental protection and government accountability, it is regretful that many of the gains made are now under threat and undergoing regression. There has been a lot of investment in the past decades but there has not been commensurate results and outcomes resulting from misallocation, lack of allocation, mismanagement of resources and lack of accountability and transparency. Women, girls and other minority groups continue to face challenges including; economic inequality, environmental degradation, poor sexual and reproductive health and rights services and rising violent conflict and fundamentalisms. At a time when urgent action is needed to fully realise sustainable development goals, we need renewed commitment, a heightened level of ambition, resources, accountability and political will.
To this end, INCRESE[1] is mobilising participants for the workshop on leveraging capacities and building bridges across different social movements, within the framework of her programme – Connecting the Dots.
Connecting the Dots is a Feminist institute focused on the intersectionality of rights and social change through advocacy, capacity strengthening and civic participation. Our goal is to build alliances and develop capacities across movements and socio-economic sectors; for enhanced, broad-based and integral sexual rights advocacy and effective civic engagement, towards sustainable social change. The programme hopes to achieve increased civic participation and engagement, to foster sustainable development.
The thematic areas of the programme include:
- Political Economy of Globalisation
- Sustainable Livelihood and Environmental Justice
- Political Restructuring and Social Transformation
- Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights

The workshop:
The workshop is scheduled to hold from 3rd February – 10th February 2019. Every detail of the workshop or any changes will be communicated to selected participants by 11th. January 2019.
Admission:
FREE on merit.
Candidate are admitted upon the presentation of their Permanent Voter’s Cards.
Scholarship:
Scholarships may be provided, in full or part, to deserving successful applicants. This may include accommodation, food and travel to the workshop location. If an applicant wishes to benefit from this scholarship opportunity, it should be clearly stated with justifiable reasons, in a separate request for scholarship.
Who may apply[2]:
- Candidates affiliated to any private or public institution (including civil society organisations) and able to demonstrate interest in development work, social change, civil rights and sexual reproductive health and rights.
- Candidates with no prior knowledge in Women, Youth and Disability rights and to acquire knowledge.
- Candidates actively engaged in program development, advocacy and policy development.
- Candidates able to demonstrate interest in civil and human rights, including the promotion of intersectionality of rights.
